Emmaus

The Emmaus group is a group of approximately 30 students from all 4 class years who serve as the spiritual leaders of the Trinity Catholic community. Students are nominated by present group members and school faculty. Interested students then go through an application and interview process before decisions are made on new group members.

The group meets once per week during lunch/advisory to plan spiritual activities for the student body and school community. The name of the group is derived from the Emmaus story (Luke 24:13-35) and calls members to reflect upon their own spiritual/faith journeys. Students are encouraged to embrace the call of the story: "to have hearts that burn within and recognize Jesus in their midst." When the group is not planning a school activity, meetings focus on personal faith and leadership formation.

Emmaus students serve as student leaders on retreats, assist with liturgies and prayer services, and continue the mission of being a pastoral presence in the school.

Emmaus Mission Statement

We are called to uphold the Trinity Catholic High School mission statement by being a group of spiritual advisors, increasing spiritual awareness, encouraging people to explore their own spirituality, and to act out their God-given gifts and talents. We are leaders who are willing to share our stories and encourage our community members to express and strengthen their own faith lives. (formally adopted May 2006)

Emmaus Retreat

Each year during Advent the Emmaus group goes on an overnight to both welcome new members to the group, as well as build community outside of the school environment. The retreat takes a more indepth look at our personal journeys with Jesus as the group continues to be a source of spiritual leadership in the school. The retreat is led by the Campus Minister and a small group of faculty members.

Senior Interns

Seniors in good academic standing are given the option to complete an internship in Campus Ministry instead of having a study hall during their senior years. The interns meet daily with the Campus Minister during a class period. They are given a "behind-the-scenes" look at Campus Ministry and are given the opportunity to help design retreats, prayer services, liturgies, and GIA experiences. Students are also required to complete weekly reflections on selected Gospel readings or spiritual readings. This more intensive look at Campus Ministry is a Pass/Fail class taken for credit.

Interested students are welcome to apply for the internship in the spring of their Junior years. Please see the Campus Minister for an application.
