Boston Scholars helps me get on top of things"
Gaelle Charmant, Trinity Catholic, '08

Inspired by the trip to Peru that Boston Scholars helped arrange, Gaelle Charmant (Boston Scholars, '08) sought a college experience that would allow her to continue to pursue her passion for world cultures and living abroad while providing training for a practical career.

Suffolk University, which has a campus in Spain, fit the bill for Gaelle.  During her four years at Suffolk, Gaelle plans to spend up to two semesters completing coursework in Madrid while perfecting her Spanish language skills, tasting local foods, experiencing Spanish culture and meeting interesting people.

Gaelle's Spanish proficiency is an example of her drive to succeed. Her philosophy is "if you are good at something, keep pushing yourself until you get to the top." Ultimately, Gaelle aspires to use her Spanish skills within a helping profession. She became inspired to pursue the medical, psychology or occupational therapy field while working with emotionally and behaviorally challenged children through an internship at the Italian Home for Children in Jamaica Plain.

Gaelle's acceptance to Suffolk was exciting because she had not expected to get in. She had considered not even applying to Suffolk. However, the Boston Scholars staff convinced her to set higher goals and apply to reach schools. The staff also helped her navigate a labyrinth of endless financial aid and other college-related forms. Gaelle said of Boston Scholars, "If I have questions and want to talk, they are always there to listen. It's good to have that extra help. I go to them with my interests and they help me find opportunities. Boston Scholars helps me get on top of things. If I wasn't with the program, I probably would have missed some key deadlines."
